After first soccer game, it got better

Mehan Bolton

A few moments with Mahtomedi soccer player Mehan Bolton, who has given a verbal commitment to play for the Gophers after her upcoming senior season.

What are your summer soccer plans? I've been playing with the St. Croix Scorpions. We're a U-17 team at the Premier level. Premier is the highest level.

How good is your team? We just recently lost in the championship game of the soccer State Cup, so I guess that means we're the second-best team in the state.

How much traveling does your team do? Since last winter, we've been to North Carolina, Florida and Ohio. We are going to Chicago for the U.S. Regionals. And we're going to Muscatine, Iowa, for a tournament.

Which trip was your favorite? Probably Florida. It was really nice. We went right after Christmas, so that helped.

Do you prefer high school or club soccer? That's hard to say. I love them both. I will say that I am really looking forward to the high school season. We move up to Class 2A, so it will be harder, but I still think we can win state.

Do you remember the first time you played soccer? I was 4 years old. I cried. My parents had to push me to go.

How did you decide that soccer was your sport? I don't know. I just fell in love with it. I like being able to use my feet. I'm not very good with my hands.

Do you have any superstitions? Well, I do have a lucky sports bra. And I always use the same two hair binders.
