An ongoing rivalry in the Suburban East Conference is set to reignite when Class 2A state runner-up East Ridge takes on Stillwater Thursday night.

Last year, the Ponies didn't lose a league game but finished behind the Raptors in the standings. Three wins and five draws, including a 0-0 tie with East Ridge, secured third place for Stillwater, however, the record landed the Ponies the second seed in the Class 2A, Section 4 playoffs -- one spot ahead of East Ridge.

The teams faced off in the section semifinals, the third time in four seasons they have met in the postseason, with the Raptors recording a 2-0 victory. The win helped propel East Ridge to the state title game, where it fell to Anoka 2-1.

East Ridge and Stillwater seem to be destined for another epic clash this year, and all eyes will be on their regular-season showdown.

Ranked second in the Class 2A coaches’ poll, the Raptors (4-0) have demolished their competition this season with an impressive 20-1 edge in scoring over foes.

The No. 9-2A Ponies (4-0) have been generally untested, racking up four consecutive wins while owning an ever-so-slightly lower 15-1 scoring clip over the competition.

This rivalry game between undefeated Suburban East and Section 4 powers boasting impressive offensives and cohesive defenses makes it an easy selection as our Top Game of the Week.
