Woodbury Shut Out for Four Consecutive Games

Woodbury entered the week with a 6-1-1 record and a share of the conference lead. However, a slew of injuries and an offensive drought led to three losses and a tie in their last 4 games.
The stretch started with a trip to Wayzata on Sept. 21st. The beat-up Royals squad had to play without Sam Hays, Tayo Famodu, Jerit Sanden, and Chris Chiu, all regular starters. Woodbury was also missing both varsity keepers Jacob Simon and Aaron Clark, so they were forced to use freshman Oscar Mulvaney in net. At one point in the game, Mulvaney picked up a yellow card for a handball outside of the box, and forward Sebastian Usurriaga had to tend the net for a minute during which he made a diving save. Wayzata led 1-0 at half, and added two more goals in the second to claim a 3-0 victory.
Woodbury then took on Roseville in an important conference showdown. The Royals started slowly, and the Raiders made them pay when Boyenneh Robertson scored 12 minutes into the game. The goal snapped the slump for the Royals however, as they controlled the ball for the rest of the game. Despite multiple shots off the crossbar, Woodbury just couldn't find the back of the net as Roseville keeper Ben Westermeyer made save after save to preserve a 1-0 win for the Raiders. Woodbury coach Joe Quintavalle said the last 65 minutes of the game were the best his team had played all season.
With a few players returning from injuries for a matchup against a Stillwater team coming off of a win over #2 East Ridge, Woodbury was ready for the challenge. Although the game was between two top SEC teams, the play was for the most part sloppy, and neither team was able to score. After overtime, the game ended in a scoreless tie.
The Royals finished the week with a non-conference match against 8-3-1 Prior Lake. Over the course of the game, defender Sam Hays and midfielder Tayo Famodu again fell victim to injury, and Brandon Bieszk also hurt himself. The Lakers outplayed the Royals en route to a 2-0 victory in which the Royals had few scoring chances. With an important matchup against crosstown rival East Ridge, who is tied with Woodbury for third in the conference, on Tuesday, the Royals hope they can regain their health and scoring touch.
