On Thursday afternoon, Woodbury and Forest Lake opened Suburban East Conference play at Forest Lake. Woodbury had scored at least five goals in their last two encounters with Forest Lake, and the trend continued on Thursday. As fans were still finding their seats, Matt Jessen-Howard scored off of a rebound from a shot by Brandon Bieszk. Woodbury applied high pressure on the Rangers, which led to two more Royal goals in the second half. Keng Xiong found the back of the net 20 minutes into the game, and Kohei Adams scored on a ball that somehow squeezed through everyone, partly do to a run made by Chris Chiu. The second half dragged on due to several injuries, and multiple Forest Lake yellow cards. Key defenders Ben Miller and Sam Hays did not play for the Royals, and Steven Jessen-Howard, a captain and defender, left the game early in the second half with an injury and didn't return. This helped lead to some chances for Forest Lake in the 2nd half, but Jacob Simon made 4 saves to keep the game a shutout.  A goal by Brandon Bieszk with 20 left in the game, and a rocket into the top corner from 30 yards out by Matt Jessen-Howard with a little over a minute to play sealed the deal. Woodbury advanced to 3-0 on the year, and Forest Lake fell to 1-3. Both teams play again on Saturday.
