Jonah Hamberger, Watertown-Mayer The junior midfielder recorded his second hat trick of the season in a 13-0 win Sept. 28 at Tri-City United, but he did more than that. Hamberger tacked on a season-high five assists. Hamberger also scored a goal in the Royals’ 2-2 tie Sept. 27 at Providence Academy and had three assists in a 6-0 win Sept. 30 at Hutchinson. He’s up to 14 goals and 18 assists for a squad that’s 8-2-3 on the season. Hamberger’s 18 assists are tied for second in the state based on stats submitted to MN Soccer Hub.
Alex Chacich, Hibbing/Chisholm. In four games last week, Chacich scored multiple goals each time. The senior poured in two goals in a 6-2 Sept. 27 loss to Hermantown, two in a 3-2 Sept. 28 win vs. Proctor, a personal best five in a 9-1 win Oct. 1 vs. Crookston and two in a 3-0 Oct. 2 win vs. East Grand Forks. Chacich’s 25 goals on the season are third best in the state.
Connor Drong, St. Cloud Cathedral. The senior defender has 23 assists on the season and is the state’s leader by five. Drong led the Crusaders, ranked No. 9 in the Oct. 3 Class A coaches’ poll, by tallying two assists in a 5-1 win Sept. 27 vs. Minnewaska Area, a personal best five in a 7-0 win Sept. 30 vs. St. John’s Prep and three in a 5-1 win Oct. 2 at Fergus Falls. He also added a goal vs. St. John’s Prep and has nine on the season.
Chris Frantz, Maple Grove. The Crimson are 12-0-0 and ranked No. 1 in the Oct. 3 Class 3A coaches’ poll with Frantz a key cog in the machine. The junior forward has recorded five straight hat tricks, two of which came last week. Frantz scored thrice in a 3-2 win Sept. 28 at Centennial and thrice in an 8-0 win Sept. 30 vs. Totino-Grace. His 26 goals are tops in his class and second in the state.
Zander Billins, Lakeville South. A stingy defense has kept Billins from seeing a lot of shots come his away, but he’s been up to the task when called upon. The junior goalkeeper owns four shutouts and has allowed just 10 goals in 11 games. He saved all five shots in a 1-0 win Sept. 27 vs. Rochester Century, all four in an 8-1 win Sept. 28 vs. Farmington and seven of eight in a 4-1 win Sept. 30 at Eagan. He’s helped the Cougars to an 11-0-0 record.
