Simley's boys' soccer team has been ranked in the top 10 in Class 1A all season, and one reason has been the defensive play of center-back Joe Trenzeluk.

He might be known for his defense, but Trenzeluk has also scored three goals on the season. He is also a member of the lacrosse squad. Here is a closer look at Trenzeluk:

The best movie I've seen in the past year? "Good Will Hunting."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "Stereo Hearts" by Gym Class Heroes; "Runaway" by Kanye West; "Hello" by Martin Solveig.

When did you get started in sports? I have played soccer my whole life, and I started playing lacrosse in eighth grade when my older brother started.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I balance school and sports by always staying focused in class during the school day and by doing more work on the weekends in order to get ahead.

Who is your school's biggest rival, and why? South St. Paul because they're always a talented team that challenges us. There is also no better feeling than beating a meatpacking town.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Our section semifinal soccer game my junior year. We beat St. Paul Central in a shootout and advanced to the section final.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... extremely out of place. I felt like crawling in a hole and never coming out again.

What did you work on in the offseason? Maintaining my fitness and I worked as a soccer referee to make a little money.

What are your goals for the 2011-12 school year as an athlete? Make it to the state tournament and to get all-state.

Favorite meal before a game? One of momma's home-made bagel, egg and cheese sandwiches.

To get focused for a game, I ... listen to my iPod and have some alone time.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... they are afraid to jump in for a tackle or when they tell another teammate to guard me.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? I wouldn't change a thing about high school sports because if I didn't like them I wouldn't play them.

When you have time off during vacation, what do you like to do? I like to relax in the sun and/or go explore new places.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Minnesota Lynx basketball team because they're the only team in my home state that has any talent.

Do you have a secret talent -- and if so, what is it? I don't have any secret talents. I don't even know how to whistle.

In 10 years, I hope I ... have a secure job making a lot of money.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? "What separates a good player from a great player is whether or not they can get back up after they've continually been knocked down." -- Noel Quinn
