Taking to the track led to happiness

Alyssa Parco

Alyssa Parco of Farmington took third place in the 300-meter hurdles and ran a leg on the Tigers' fourth-place 4x400 relay team as a junior in the 2011 Class 2A state meet. Here's a look at Parco, who will also play soccer in the fall.

The best movie I've seen in the last year? "Inception."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "Bless The Broken Road" by Rascal Flatts; "Lucky" by Jason Mraz; "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen.

Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Goofy; social; unique.

Favorite meal before a game or race? During track I always eat a peanut butter sandwich and a banana.

How did you get started playing the sport or sports you play now in high school? Well, soccer has always been in my life. I started it at a young age and continued playing until today. As for track, I actually started running track because of soccer. In seventh or eighth grade, my soccer coach commented that I would be great in track, so I decided to try it out. I'm glad I did.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... very nervous. I was surrounded by all these bigger kids who were more experienced and knew a lot more than I did. Plus, a lot of them were pretty tall looking and intimidating in my eyes at that time.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? The day our 4x400 team received fourth in state. Then, on that same day, we found out that our little team of five girls got fourth in state overall. I was extremely proud of all of our team. It was an amazing, memorable day.
