First report

In the 78th minute, Edina senior Mia Sennes scored the game-tying goal to save the Hornets from a loss against Lake Conference foe Minnetonka before the match finished in a 3-3 draw Tuesday.

The Hornets, ranked No. 2 in the Class 2A state coaches’ poll, got off to a 2-0 start in the first half when junior midfielder Jessie Hunt knocked in the first goal, followed by a Minnetonka own-goal that put the Hornets (6-1-2, 2-2-1) up by two.

Unfortunately for Edina, the lead wouldn’t last.

The No. 8-2A Skippers got on the board late in the first half on a long shot by senior midfielder Grace Weisman. Minnetonka (7-3-1, 1-3-1) tied the game on a Jelena Zbiljic corner kick in the 46th minute.

A Jess Kollodge goal in the 73rd minute put the Skippers ahead before Sennes responded, sending the game into overtime.

Both goalkeepers stood tall in the extra frame. Minnetonka’s Olivia Graupmann came in for the second half and overtime and made eight saves. Paige Kahlmeyer made five saves in the first half while Hornets junior goaltender Cassie Michel had seven saves and played the entire match.
