Class 2A

Minneapolis Washburn ended Wayzata’s six-week reign as the No. 1-ranked team in the Minnesota High School Soccer Coaches Association Class 2A poll in the final regular season poll, which was released Wednesday.

The Millers (12-1-1) concluded the regular season with 3-0 wins over Minneapolis Southwest on Oct. 5 and St. Louis Park last Saturday while the Trojans (12-0-3) dropped to No. 2 after tying Minnetonka 1-1 on Oct. 3 and beating Robbinsdale Armstrong 3-0 on Oct. 7.

Wayzata and Minneapolis Washburn might be set for a meeting in the Class 2A, Section 6 championship once again this season after the Trojans drew the No. 1 seed and the Millers earned the No. 2 seed. Minneapolis Washburn upset Wayzata 3-1 in last year’s Section 6 championship.

Andover (13-1-2) rose to the No. 3 spot following a 2-1 win over Maple Grove on Oct. 5, its regular season finale. The Crimson entered that game ranked No. 3 but dropped one spot following the loss.

White Bear Lake (13-2) continued its climb and checked in at No. 5 after it wrapped up the Suburban East Conference championship with a 4-2 win over Stillwater on Oct. 3 and a 3-0 win over Park of Cottage Grove on Oct. 5. The Bears begin the Section 4 tournament as the No. 1 seed.

Edina (10-1-5) dropped to No. 6 after a 1-1 tie with Chaska on Oct. 7 but opens the postseason as the top seed in Section 2 against eighth-seeded Chaska.

Stillwater (12-2-2) stayed at No. 7 after drawing 0-0 with Lakeville North on Oct. 5 and beating Moorhead 3-0 on Oct. 7.

Defending Class 2A state champion Centennial (11-2-2) crept up to No. 8 after closing the regular season with a seven-game unbeaten streak, which included a 1-0 win over Blaine on Oct. 5. The Bengals dropped from the rankings after entering the top 10 at No. 10 last week.

Eagan (11-2-2) dropped to No. 9 after once being ranked as high as No. 5. The Wildcats opened the postseason as the No. 1 seed and advanced with a 4-1 win over eighth-seeded Henry Sibley.

Burnsville (11-4-1) re-entered the top 10 at No. 10 after beating Apple Valley 4-0 on Oct. 3 and tying Rosemount 5-5 on Oct. 5, which clinched a share of the South Suburban Conference title. The Blaze entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in Section 3 and defeated seventh-seeded Hastings 12-0.

Class 1A

The top 10 in Class 1A remained relatively unchanged in the final regular season coaches' poll.

The top five teams remained in place this week while Benilde-St. Margaret’s climbed the rankings for the second consecutive week.

Orono (13-0-3) remained No. 1 in the rankings after a 1-1 draw on Oct. 5 against No. 4-1A Blake (10-4-2) and will open the postseason at the No. 1 seed in Section 6. The Bears grabbed the top seed in Section 5.

Hill-Murray (10-1-5) remained No. 2, despite a 1-0 loss to Class 2A foe Mounds View on Oct. 7 in the regular season finale. The Pioneers, however, will open the Section 4 playoffs as the No. 2 seed, behind No. 5-ranked Mahtomedi (11-3-2). Hill-Murray and the Zephyrs played to a 0-0 draw in the regular season back on Oct. 3.

St. Paul Academy (13-2) stayed No. 3 following a 1-0 loss on Oct. 3 to No. 6 Benilde-St. Margaret’s. The Spartans closed the regular season on Oct. 6 with a 3-0 win over No. 10 Northfield and open the postseason as the top seed in Section 3.

Mankato West (13-0-3) ended the regular season as the seventh-ranked team in Class 1A and secured the top seed in Section 2. The Scarlets dropped one spot in this week's rankings.

Visitation (11-2-2) fell to No. 8 following a 2-0 loss to Blake in the regular season finale. The Blazers begin the Section 3 playoffs as the No. 2 seed.

Cloquet (15-1) entered the rankings last week at No. 9 and remained there after winning its 13th straight game to end the regular season. The Lumberjacks enter the postseason as the top seed in Section 7.

Northfield, which won the Big 9 Conference title over rival Mankato West, cracked the top 10 last week as well and enters the playoffs as the No. 10-ranked team in Class 1A. The Raiders, however, drew the No. 2 seed for the Section 2 playoffs, setting up a possible rematch with the Scarlets for the section title.
