Eagan became the first team to beat undefeated and top-seeded Minneapolis Washburn this year, defeating the Millers 1-0 in the Class 3A boys soccer state semifinals at U.S. Bank Stadium Wednesday.

The win books the Wildcats (19-1-1) a spot in Friday’s state championship in their first trip to the state tournament since 2015. Eagan will play the winner of Maple Grove and Andover, the second 3A semifinal of the day.

In the second period of overtime, after ninety minutes of scoreless play thanks to strong goalkeeping performances, senior midfielder Jake Sondag drove down the right sideline and served a ball to All-State junior midfielder Eric Noll. Sondag poked in a rebound off Noll’s shot for the long-awaited breakthrough.
