Despite trailing 4-2 at one point, Berit Parten and the Redhawks stormed back to beat the Lions.

It’s a cliche that a 2-0 lead is the most dangerous lead in sports, but for Minnehaha Academy, a 2-0 deficit was a blessing in disguise on Tuesday night.

“Us going down 2-0 is probably the worst thing that could happen to Providence in terms of dealing with Berit Parten,” Minnehaha Academy head coach Bryan Hollaway said of his junior forward.

Going down 2-0 in the opening 12 minutes made Parten angry, which she used to her advantage.

First Report

Minnehaha Academy outlasted Providence Academy on the road in a shootout Tuesday night, coming away with a 6-4 victory.

Maddyn Greenway started the goal fest less than five minutes in for Providence Academy. She hit a laser from a direct free kick 25 yards away from goal. Avery Lampe did that one better a few minutes later, scoring from about 30 yards out after a loose ball fell to her feet.

Berit Parten got the Redhawks (4-0, 3-0) back in the game with an impressive solo effort. Then Lampe, Parten and Greenway all found the back of the net again, making it 4-2 Lions with 10:45 left in the first half.

Parten finished off a hat trick with just under four minutes left in the half. After taking on a defender she slotted home from an extremely tight angle.

Parten added a fourth to tie the game 4-4 midway through the second half. The Lions (3-2, 1-2) had just missed out on a goal after the ball was cleared off the goal line, and Parten dribbled the ball over 50 yards before scoring.

Parten then assisted the winner with 7:19 left, as her through ball set up Greta Carlson, who scored off the post. Parten then added a fifth goal to cap off a five-goal game.

The attack of both teams was on full display, but the goalkeepers were active as well. Grace Counts made nine saves for the Lions, while Ayden Guild stopped four for the Redhawks.
