“I was just, I don’t know, I was just really angry because I don’t like being down,” Parten said. “I definitely think the anger pushed me and made me play even harder.”  

That anger turned into five goals and an assist, as Parten and the Redhawks (4-0, 3-0) defeated Independent Metro Athletic Conference foe Providence Academy 6-4.  

The early offensive onslaught from the Lions (3-2, 1-2) was something that Hollaway was expecting.  

“We knew that it was going to be high scoring, so we talked about the fact that we’d have a roller coaster ride through the game and that’s exactly what it ended up being; two heavyweights slugging each other out,” Hollaway said. 

It’s no surprise why he’d be expecting a strong attack from the Lions, as they feature Maddyn Greenway, the state’s leading goal scorer. She had 13 goals in Providence Academy’s first four games, and she added two more on Tuesday, including the game’s opening goal that came less than five minutes in.  

But the Redhawks were able to counter with Parten. 

“She’s a competitor. What we find is she plays her best in the biggest games,” Hollaway said of Parten. “She’s going to get in that mentality where I don’t care who’s in my way or how many defenders, she’s going to do it. We saw it in the state tournament last year, it was the same thing where she gets in the zone, and we saw it tonight.” 

Parten opened the scoring for the Redhawks over halfway into the first half. With just under four minutes left in the half, she finished off a hat trick.  

But the second half is where she truly took over. She scored the equalizer midway through the second half when the Redhawks broke after a Providence Academy corner. Once Parten picked up the ball, she had acres of space to work with.  

“I knew my speed could get past their defenders, so I was just like just keep going, just keep going,” she said. “Get there, get it on frame, hit it hard and thankfully it went in.”  

She then assisted the winning goal, playing in a long through ball that Greta Carlson was able to score with a nice finish. Parten added a fifth goal to seal it and that was her favorite of the bunch.  

“I like the last one I had with the right foot, I kind of hit it off a weird bounce,” she said. 

This win will only help the defending Class 1A champs as the season carries on. Hollaway said his team has made a habit of playing at its best in the second half.  

“It’s because they learn as the game progresses and they’re really smart players,” Hollaway said. “Wins like tonight where we come back are crucial for us in building confidence for the players.”
