Call and answer was the theme of Wednesday night’s boys’ soccer game.

Step 1: Maple Grove scores. Step 2: Champlin Park answers back quickly. Repeat that until roughly six minutes remaining in the second half when Crimson forward Chris Frantz made sure his team was up for good.

His goal secured a 3-2 victory for Maple Grove against Northwest Suburban Conference foe Champlin Park.

First Report

Champlin Park answered Maple Grove's call twice but the third time was the charm for the Crimson on Wednesday night.

Maple Grove escaped with a 3-2 road win over Northwest Suburban Conference foe Champlin Park on Wednesday night.

Chris Frantz opened the scoring just over seven minutes into the game. After a Rebels defender made a sliding block on a shot, the rebound fell to Frantz near the edge of the box. He calmly hit the ball just over the fingertips of Champlin goalkeeper Evan Martin and into the back of the net.

The Rebels (2-1, 2-1) responded right away, as Sylvester Doe scored 24 seconds later. He got the ball shortly after the game reset and made a strong run toward the Crimson goal. He found an angle just outside of the box and hit a left-footed shot into the top corner, giving the keeper no chance.

The Crimson (2-1, 1-1) had a majority of the possession for the rest of the half, and they made it count before halftime. Frantz picked up the ball in midfield and dribbled past three defenders before beating the keeper in a one-on-one situation to put Maple Grove up 2-1 heading into halftime.

Doe answered again in the second half, heading home a rebound of his own shot after Brian Avery played him in with a nice pass, tying the game with just over 20 minutes remaining.

Frantz had the final response, as he scored on a direct free kick from 25 yards out to complete his hat trick and secure the win for the Crimson.
