Orono and Benilde-St. Margaret’s battled to a 1-1 tie in a matchup between two Metro West Conference opponents in Class 2A soccer Tuesday night.

A scoreless first half had few scoring opportunities, with both teams fighting for possession and struggling to find open-shot opportunities. Orono’s Avery Anderson saw his header go wide, while Red Knights’ Tenekay Johnson’s free-kick from the 30-yard line was too low, missing to the left of the goal.

The No. 2-2A Spartans (10-0-1) tallied three shots on goal in the first half, while the defense from the home team was able to keep the No. 8-2A Red Knights (8-2-2) to just one shot on goal in the first half.
