Girls' top games: Maple Grove remains the defending state champion until proven otherwise

Sept. 25: The Crimson and Ponies, both ranked in the top five in Class 3A, meet in a potential state tournament preview.

We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.






Other games to keep an eye on

Benilde-St. Margaret's vs. Esko, 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25. The No. 1-2A Red Knights (7-0-0, 3-0-0), who have shut out all but one of their opponents, head north to face No. 10-1A Esko (4-2-0, 1-0-0) and senior goalkeeper Orie Randall.

Mankato East vs. Mankato West, 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25. Senior Annelise Winch, who ranks among the state leaders with 15 goals, leads Mankato West (5-2-1, 4-1-1) against intracity rival No. 9-2A Mankato East (5-2-0, 4-1-0).
