We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.

Additional girls' games

Other games to keep an eye on

Waconia vs. Watertown-Mayer, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6. Two of the state’s top scorers in No. 10-1A Waconia’s (8-0-1, 8-0-1) Brynley Theis (15 goals) and Watertown-Mayer’s (8-1-0, 7-1-0) Maris Heun (12 goals) will be the main attractions in this showdown between Wright County Conference leaders that have combined for one loss this season.

Brainerd vs. Moorhead, 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10. Thank goodness a make-up date was found for this postponed matchup between Central Lakes Conference leaders. Moorhead (9-0-0, 9-0-0) has allowed just two goals and boasts the state’s scoring leader in Olivia Watson (a stunning 41 goals). Brainerd (8-0-0, 8-0-0), meanwhile, also has allowed just two goals and is led by Emma Sheflo and Mari Devine who have 10 goals apiece.

Boys' games

Other games to keep an eye on

Minnetonka vs. Edina, 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6. No. 2-2A Minnetonka (7-2-0, 7-2-0) is paced by 19-goal scorer Dylan Olson and, like No. 7-2A Edina (7-2-0, 7-2-0), is trailing No. 3-2A Wayzata by one point in the race for the Lake Conference championship.

Moorhead vs. Brainerd, 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10. Like the girls’ matchup between these two schools, this one has been rescheduled from earlier in the season. A wise decision, given Moorhead (9-0-0, 9-0-0) and Brainerd (7-0-1, 7-0-1) are both undefeated and battling for the Central Lakes Conference crown.
