Richfield boys take Tri-Metro title on an Alvarado second-half penalty kick

Richfield continued its winning ways on Tuesday night in front of a capacity crowd at home with a 1-0 victory over defending Class 1A state champion Holy Angels.

Richfield (8-0-0, 7-0-0) captured the Tri-Metro Conference title with the win. Averaging nearly six goals a game this season, the Spartans, ranked No. 5 in the Class 1A coaches’ poll, got their goal late in the second half on a penalty kick by senior Miguel Leon Alvarado. Alvarado leads the team in scoring with 14 goals and 11 assists.
