The Panthers and Irish both entered Tuesday's tilt having yet to surrender a goal this season. The teams can rest easy until their next respective game, knowing their stout defenses held strong another match.

Lakeville North hasn’t spotted its opponents any goals this season. The Panthers did, however, spot their competition more than a week of preseason training as the team quarantined for eight days when practice opened statewide on Aug. 17 due to COVID-19 pandemic concerns.

The Panthers overcame their delayed start to the season to make it through the first half of their schedule unbeaten heading into Tuesday’s home matchup. With pole position in the South Suburban Conference and Class 2A, Section 3 supremacy on the line, Lakeville North (5-0-1, 5-0-1) battled league rival Rosemount (5-0-1, 5-0-1) to a 0-0 tie.

“My entire team was quarantined the first eight days of when we were supposed to take the field,” said Lakeville North coach Brian Lehman. “What we’ve done is really impressive because we had to assemble a team in three training sessions and play the next day.”

Lakeville North and Rosemount both have yet to allow a goal this season. Rosemount, ranked No. 3 in the Class 2A coaches’ poll, has outscored opponents 25-0 while No. 6-2A Lakeville North has had an 8-0 advantage in scoring.

First Report

Neither Lakeville North nor Rosemount had surrendered a goal this season coming into Tuesday’s anticipated South Suburban Conference showdown at Lakeville North High School. After Tuesday? Nothing’s changed, as the Panthers tied the Irish 0-0.

Annie Waters was in goal for the host Panthers, ranked No. 6 in the Class 2A coaches’ poll, with No. 3-2A Irish goalkeeper Jordan Hecht on the other end of the field.

The game was a rematch of the 2019 Class 2A, Section 3 championship, which Rosemount won 2-1. The last five meetings between the two teams ended tied or in a one-goal game.

Lakeville North  (5-0-1, 5-0-1) and Rosemount (5-0-1, 5-0-1) remain tied atop the conference standings. This was the only regular-season meeting between the teams, which are each playing a shortened 11-game regular-season schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rosemount has outscored opponents 25-0 so far this season while Lakeville North holds an 8-0 advantage in scoring.
