Eagles shut out St. Peter 1-0

Nickasch scores lone goal in win

Jennifer Nickasch’s goal in the 36th minute gave fourth-seeded Totino-Grace a 1-0 victory over St. Peter in Roseville on Friday night and a berth in the Class 1A state semifinals for the first time since 2007.

In a 3-on-2 break, the Eagles (14-4-2) worked the ball from left to right, where the senior midfielder unleashed a brilliant shot up and over the Saints goalkeeper for her sixth goal of the season. Abigail Welle was credited with an assist.

Totino-Grace didn’t walk away with victory win easily, as the scrappy Saints (12-6-3) generated numerous chances. Haley Jaeger’s shot in the first half met between goalkeeper Danielle Kelliher hands and the crossbar before settling in front of the goal.

Kelliher turned away every shot she faced for Totino-Grace. The Saints’ continued physical and aggressive play created problems for the Eagles, but St. Peter could not convert.
