The 8th-ranked Eagles controlled the ball early and often.

Sophomore Abdul Omar scored a goal and added an assist as eighth-ranked Eden Prairie beat Blaine 4-1 in the Class 2A state quarterfinals Thursday night at Roseville High School.

The Eagles controlled possession early and often.

“I was really pleased with our passing,” head coach Vince Thomas said. “Sometimes we get a little selfish and a little greedy and it doesn’t work that way. They’re figuring it out now that this is how they can be successful.”

Eden Prairie broke through in the 17th minute. A corner kick made its way through the top of the box, finding Chris Hurst alone behind the defenders. Hurst, a junior defender, powered it in for his second goal of the season, with an assist to Abdul Omar, and the Eagles took a 1-0 into halftime.

In a second-half, two-on-one rush for the Eagles, Omar brought the ball to a stop, cut back and curved a beauty into the lower right-hand corner of the net. Natalio Blanche was credited with an assist.

Dane Niemira added the third goal, also set up by Omar. Mason Moore scored the fourth and final tally. Dalton Cristilly scored the Bengals’ lone goal. Senior goalkeeper Alex Dewey picked up his 14th win.
