Calvin Kim scored the winner to edge Sartell-St. Stephen 2-1

Fourth-seeded Rochester Lourdes avenged its first-round exit from last year – just barely.

Calvin Kim’s goal in the ninth round of a shootout Thursday night won it 2-1 for the Eagles, who move on to face Prairie Seeds Academy in the Class A semifinals next week at the Metrodome.

Jack Convery’s 23rd goal of the season gave Lourdes a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute of the game, played in Hopkins. The margin stuck until Tyler Smith-Coppes showed patience in front of the net, putting in the equalizer for the Sabres in the 49th minute.

In the shootout, both teams succeeded on three of five tries to set up sudden death. Keeper Will Elder stopped three of the four Sartell misses.

There were two other Class A quarterfinal games in St. Cloud Thursday evening.

St. Paul Academy 2, Mankato West 0
Junior attacker Peter Wood scored both goals, one in each half, of the Spartans’ victory over the Scarlets. He scored in the fifth minute of the first half and with 11 minutes left in the second half. St. Paul Academy (18-2-0) only had one other shot on goal.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s 2, Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 1
Brendan Schember and Jake Horton scored three minutes apart in the first half as the Red Knights (17-2-1) topped the Lumberjacks. Landen Straub opened the scoring for the Lumberjacks at the 11-minute mark. All three goals were scored in a six-minute span. Benilde-St. Margaret’s outshot Cloquet-Esko-Carlton.
