BOYS' SOCCER

Eastview opens tournament with shutout

CLASS 2A

• EASTVIEW 4, HASTINGS 0: Matt Miller scored two goals as the No. 1-ranked Lightning shut out the Raiders for the second time this season on Tuesday night in the opening round of the Section 3 tournament in Apple Valley. Miller, a senior midfielder, scored once in each half. Eastview led 3-0 at the break. The Lightning beat Hastings 5-0 during the regular season.

CLASS 1A

• MINNEHAHA ACADEMY 2, RICHFIELD 1 (OT): Michael LeGrand scored on a header off a corner kick by Charlie Gibbons in overtime, giving the Redhawks a victory over the Spartans in the first round of Section 3 play. Richfield forced overtime with a goal with 5 minutes remaining. The Redhawks opened the scoring one minute into the second half when Jack Blodgett scored on an assist from Jeremy Nasifoglu.

• MOUNDS PARK ACADEMY 0, LIBERTY CLASSICAL 0: Lions goalkeeper Andrew Grill held up as long as he could against the Panthers. Mounds Park Academy advanced to the second round of Section 4 with a shootout victory (5-3). Grill made 25 saves before the shootout. Liberty Classical only had four shots on goal.

• WATERTOWN-MAYER 2, SOUTHWEST CHRISTIAN 1: The Royals won their first playoff game in school history, topping the Stars in the opening round of the section 6 tournament. Watertown-Mayer trailed 1-0 at halftime, but sophomore Matt Scanlon scored two second-half goals for the victory. Both goals were assisted by sophomore Alex Bakke. Goalkeeper Brandon Kuntz made five stellar saves from short range. Watertown-Mayer raised its record to 12-4, its first winning season in school history.

• BRECK 5, DELANO 0: Andrew Headrick scored the first two goals in the Mustangs' victory over the Tigers in Section 6.

• ORONO 4, INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL 0: Senior captain Will Semsch assisted on three of the four Spartan goals in the victory over the Huskies in Section 6. Orono limited International School to one shot on goal.

GIRLS' SOCCER

Apple Valley upsets Park

CLASS 1A

• APPLE VALLEY 4, PARK 1: Junior attacker Megan Maki scored the first three goals as the sixth-seeded Eagles upset the third-seeded Wolfpack in the quarterfinals of Section 3 play in Cottage Grove. The Wolfpack scored its lone goal on a penalty kick.

• EASTVIEW 5, HENRY SIBLEY 1: Paris Sanders had two goals and two assists, leading the Lightning past the Warriors in Section 3.

• ROSEMOUNT 2, HASTINGS 0: Junior Hannah Halterman scored both goals as the Irish advanced to the Section 3 semifinals, shutting out the Raiders.

CLASS 1A

• MINNEHAHA ACADEMY 8, CRISTO REY JESUIT 0: Maggie Moran scored three goals, and the Redhawks posted a shutout in the opening round of Section 2.

• HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 6, BROOKLYN CENTER 1: Senior attacker Anna Franz had a hat trick, leading the Eagles past the Centaurs in the first round of Section 5.

• ROCKFORD 1, WEST LUTHERAN 0 (OT): Senior Mikayla Bartlett scored from 25 yards out with 2 seconds left on the clock before the two teams switched ends in overtime as the Rockets eliminated the Warriors in Section 6. Rockford outshot West Lutheran 32-4.
