Late in a scoreless game in mid-September, Orono needed a spark if it wanted to beat Wright County Conference rival Waconia and extend its winning streak to five. Enter Reece Clifford, who sped down the field with the ball and shot at the goal's top right corner, scoring the first of two Spartan goals in a victory over the Wildcats.

The bump was just what Orono needed en route to a Wright County championship, which came later in the season. Clifford, a senior who finished with seven regular-season goals, was recently selected first team all-state for Class 1A boys' soccer.

Announced last week, the list of all-state players, compiled by the state's coaches' association, spotlights some of the best talent in Class 1A and Class 2A. Players are nominated by coaches and voted on by a selection committee.

Reece joined players like La Crescent-Hokah's Isaac Petersen, a 40-goal scorer with 15 assists, and Hank Stechmann, who only allowed 12 goals while backstopping Edina to a perfect 16-0 regular season.

See below all the players who made the first and second teams in both Class 1A and 2A.
