Junior attacker Kenzie Jacobson’s goal in the 14th minute — a shot that hit off a goalpost before bouncing into the net — was all No. 3-seeded Rosemount needed for a 1-0 Class 2A quarterfinal victory over Cretin-Derham Hall.

“I had the ball at the top of the box, and I knew that I could beat the girl, I just had to dribble past her,” Jacobson said. “I just looked at the shot and shot it hard.”

Cretin-Derham Hall (15-5-0) had chances early in the second half. But the Irish kept Raiders senior Paige Peltier, a 41-goal scorer this season, at bay.

First report

An early 1-0 lead for No. 3-seed Rosemount was all it needed for a Class 2A quarterfinal victory over Cretin-Derham Hall.

Junior attacker Kenzie Jacobson scored for the Irish in the 14th minute of the game. She lobbed the ball toward the goal where it hit the left post before bouncing into the net.

Cretin-Derham Hall (15-5-0) tried to get the equalizer with some chances early in the second half but to no avail.

With about 18 minutes to play in regulation, the Raiders had a corner kick with a chance to capitalize, but it was the Irish that went the other way for a scoring chance. Rosemount took the ball all the way down the field and ended up with a point-blank shot from senior Olivia Kraemer. Raiders goalkeeper Olivia Kalla made the save to keep it a one-goal game.

Rosemount (18-2-0), seeking its first state title, earned its eighth shutout of the season with freshman Jordan Hecht in net.  Rosemount finished second in 2016 to Centennial, the team it will face in the semifinals.
