Blake midfielder Jackson Lagos watched Breck goalkeeper Gunnar Evenstad make an amazing save on a penalty kick. A minute later, Lagos was awarded a penalty kick.

Nervous, anyone?

"You just have to stay calm and stay confident," Lagos said. "I like to take a couple of steps back to calm down. But I took the shot and saw the ball go to the back of the net, and that was a great feeling."

The Blake sophomore's goal broke a 1-1 tie, and he added another goal on a penalty kick with roughly six minutes to play in his team's 3-2 victory in the Class 1A, Section 5 title match played at Osseo High School Thursday.

The result gives the Bears a chance to defend their state title and helped them improve to 15-4 on the season. Meanwhile the Mustangs ended the season with a 14-4-1 mark.

But the win was far from certain for Blake, which took the lead on a goal by senior Will Mortenson with 15:12 left in the first half. That lead appeared safe until Breck, the top seed in the section, got the equalizer with 42 seconds to go on a header by senior Parker Sargent.

First report

Blake earned a chance to defend its state title by knocking off Breck 3-2 in the Class 1A, Section 5 final played in Osseo Thursday.

The No. 2-seed Bears got two penalty kick goals from sophomore Jackson Lagos in the second half and held on to improve to 15-4 on the season.

Blake took an early lead when senior Will Mortenson scored at 24:48 of the first half. But Breck tied the game with senior Parker Sargent's header with just 42 seconds left in the opening half.

Mustangs goalkeeper Gunnar Evenstad made a strong save off a penalty kick by Blake's Keegan James at 2:18, but less than a minute later the Bears got another penalty kick that Lagos tucked into the lower right corner of the Breck goal.

Then, with 6:07 left in the second half, Breck, the section's top seed, was called for a handball in the box, and Lagos again converted with a shot into the low right corner of the goal.

David Gorman scored on a header with just 1:51 left in the second half to bring the Mustangs within one goal, but Breck could not find the equalizer and finished the season 14-4-1.
