Quest to repeat: Minnetonka girls shut out Edina to clinch state tourney berth

Minnetonka will return to the state tournament after a 3-0 win over Edina in Class 2A, Section 2 final Tuesday night in Chanhassen. 

It was an exciting start, with both teams pressing. With halftime looming, Emilia Johnson netted the first goal of the game in the 34th minute off a free kick, giving the Skippers a 1-0 lead. Claire Carver added a goal five minutes later to build the Minnetonka lead to 2-0 at halftime. 

In the second half, Edina received a yellow card that allowed Lissa Mizutani to score off a penalty kick, putting things out of reach for the Hornets (15-3-1).
