Edina's perfect run continued with a shutout win over Minnetonka, as the Hornets clinched the Class 2A, Section 2 championship over the Skippers in Chanhassen Tuesday night.

It’s safe to say the two best teams from Class 2A, Section 2 met in the championship game, with a berth to the state tournament on the line.

Edina had not lost a game all year, but the Hornets were challenged in two close contests against Minnetonka, securing 3-2 victories in both regular-season games, on Sept. 14 and Oct. 3.

Tuesday’s match proved why Edina is unblemished at 19-0, as the Hornets shut down the Skippers 2-0.

First report

Edina continued its perfect season with a 2-0 win over Minnetonka in the Class 2A, Section 2 title game Tuesday night at Chanhassen High School.

After a scoreless first half, the Hornets (19-0) found their stride when Eddy Rosenthal scored off a rebound in the 44th minute. Eight minutes later, Rosenthal found Valentin Correlajo on a beautiful assist as Correlajo built the Edina lead to two.

Hornets goalie Hank Stechmann finished with four saves, three of those shots coming from Niko Scheibal for Minnetonka (13-3-3), which was unable to defend its section championship from last year. Skippers’ keepers Marcus Knowles and Kai Haroldson made one save each.

Edina heads to Class 2A state tournament for the first time since 2016.
