Girls' top games: Mankato West poised to continue dominance against Mankato East in Key City rivalry

We task our reporters with identifying several intriguing games throughout the state to assemble our Top Games of the Week. The matchups are presented in no particular order, and when there are additional games we want to highlight, we’ll include them with brief notes.






Other games to keep an eye on

Cretin Derham-Hall vs. Andover, 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21. Special K, as in Kelsey Kallio, has scored a team-best seven goals, boosting No. 5-2A Andover (7-1-0, 6-0-0) to the top of the Northwest Suburban Conference standings and into favored status for Saturday’s game against Cretin-Derham Hall (4-2-0, 1-1-0).

Fergus Falls vs. Brainerd, 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17. Gabbie Smith has scored in all but one game this season for Brainerd (5-2-0, 5-0-0), totaling 15 goals as the Warriors head into Tuesday’s Central Lakes Conference showdown with Fergus Falls (5-3-0, 2-2-0). 

St. Paul Como Park vs. St. Paul Highland Park, 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20. Yet another of the state’s top scorers, Shar Too of St. Paul Como Park, faces a tough matchup as the Cougars (8-1-0, 3-0-0) visit St. Paul City Conference challenger St. Paul Highland Park (4-3-1, 2-0-0).
