Two of the top Class 1A girls soccer teams in Minnesota played to a 2-2 tie in overtime at Mahtomedi on Saturday.

But for the homestanding Zephyrs, a team struggling to overcome a schedule which lacks early season games, and Benilde-St. Margaret's, which has a roster loaded with underclassmen, the contest was a valuable stepping stone as both hope to compete for a Class 1A state title.

Both Mahtomedi (3-2-1), the two-time defending state champ in Class 1A, and Benilde-St. Margaret's (4-1-4) scored one goal in each half of the contest. Neither team scored in overtime.

The Zephyrs, ranked No. 2 in the Class 1A state coaches' poll, got a pair of goals from senior Lauren Heinsch.
