The Skippers, who are undefeated, have held each of their opponents scoreless through four games played.

The bottom of Dylan Olson’s jersey was ripped, like it had been caught in a barbed-wire fence or snagged in the paw of a mountain lion.

The torn blue material, coupled with the ice pack Olson was gingerly toting around starting midway through the second half, gave an indication of what kind of day it had been for Minnetonka’s junior scoring sensation in a 2-0 triumph over Duluth East at Minnetonka High School on Saturday afternoon.

“I got my elbow ripped up,” said Olson, who scored his sixth goal of the season. “I felt my knee ripping up at the end. I’ve got stuff on my side.

“But it could have been worse.”

Worse?

By teammate Andres Rivas’ count, Olson was fouled at least 10 times in the rematch of a Class 2A state semifinal last fall. One of those fouls led to a second-half penalty kick, and Olson converted by skidding a low shot to the left of Duluth East goalkeeper Anthony McHenry.

First Report

Junior forward Dylan Olson scored his sixth goal of the season and Minnetonka’s defense notched its fourth shutout in as many games on Saturday in the Skippers’ 2-0 victory over Duluth East (3-3-0, 0-0-0) at Minnetonka High School.

The rematch of a Class 2A semifinal from last fall, which was won 2-0 by Duluth East, was a thoroughly one-sided affair, as the Greyhounds, ranked No. 4 in Class 2A in the latest Minnesota State Soccer Coaches Association poll, managed precious few scoring chances and just one official shot on goal — a long range one at that.

Minnetonka (4-0-0, 0-0-0) continued its early season tear behind the play of the speedy, elusive Olson and its stifling defense led by senior Andres Rivas.

Sophomore Charlie Pears scored an insurance goal for the No. 2-2A Skippers with 8:47 left in the second half and goalkeeper Kai Haroldson, perhaps the loneliest player in Minnesota soccer, earned the shutout.
