Eight-goal effort sets individual state record

• MANKATO LOYOLA 9, NEW PRAGUE 0: Sophomore attacker Lance Gaspar scored a state-record eight goals in the Crusaders' nonconference victory over the Trojans on Tuesday. "It was a special day for Lance," Mankato Loyola coach Cyrus Azarbod said. "He is a very gifted player." The previous mark of seven goals had been accomplished three times -- twice by Aaron Gibbons of Minneapolis South in 2004 and 2005 and once by Josh Jensen of St. Peter in 2006. New Prague has given up 27 goals in its past three games.

• RICHFIELD 1, MAHTOMEDI 0 (OT): The Spartans' first goal of the season turned out to be a memorable one. Senior Alex Viera scored on a pass from the top of the box from Carlos Quechuleno, hitting the post and slipping the ball under the goaltender's arm for the lone goal with two minutes remaining in the Spartans' overtime victory against the Zephyrs. The Spartans (1-3) were outscored 12-0 in their first three games.

• COON RAPIDS 1, ANOKA 0 (OT): Alex Lopez scored with seven seconds left in overtime, lifting the Cardinals over the Tornadoes in the Northwest Suburban. Lopez took a return pass from Vernon Hachabe and chipped the ball over the top of the goalkeeper from just outside of the 18-yard line.
