Chanhassen vs. Bloomington Jefferson

7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6

Chanhassen needs a win to have a chance at the Metro West Conference crown. The Storm are just one point behind leaders Benilde-St. Margaret’s and its opponent Thursday: Bloomington Jefferson.

On paper, the road team might have the upper hand. The Jaguars (7-4-3, 4-1-1) have gone just 1-2-2 since Sept. 17 after winning a season-high four straight games. Becca Brendalen, Isabel Perron, Emma Yeates and Ayah Makled all have three goals this season for Bloomington Jefferson, which leads the team. The Jaguars edged Chanhassen 1-0 last season, and can eliminate the Storm’s chances at the conference title with a win Thursday.

The team out west, however, has been streaking. Winners of seven of its last eight games, the Storm (10-2, 5-1) have outscored its opponents 33-6 during that stretch, thanks in large part to Grace Fogerty. The senior has had a stellar season, and is fresh off a five-goal performance against Waconia, one shy of her season best six goals against St. Louis Park. How the Jaguar defense limits Fogarty’s impact may decide this one.

A win for Chanhasssen will prove its viability for the top spot in the conference. The Storm already lost to Benilde-St. Margaret’s, so a victory over Bloomington Jefferson may be key for the team’s mindset heading into sections.
