Eagan vs. Rosemount

7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5

Only a few teams in Class 3A have had the success Rosemount has had this season. Ranked No. 3 in the latest Class 3A Coaches' Association poll, the Irish are in the midst of a nine-game winning streak as it gets set for a section battle against Eagan.

While their overall records differ on paper, both teams have an unblemished record in Class 3A, Section 3 play. It's the season finale for both teams, teeing up what could be an enticing section tournament matchup and a repeat of the last two years.

The Irish have met Eagan in the last two section championship games. Rosemount edged the Wildcats 1-0 last year thanks to a second-half goal from Ava Grate.

This year Eagan (8-5-1) got off to a rocky start, dropping three of its first four. Since Sept. 20, however, the Wildcats have played their best soccer of the season, recording a 5-0-1 record, and allowing zero goals in each win.

Unfortunately for Eagan, Rosemount (13-1) is also in the midst of its best run. The Irish haven’t allowed a single goal since Sept. 7, and the team still won that game 5-1. The team has 12 shutouts this season, thanks in large part to Jordan Hecht. The senior goalkeeper has allowed just three goals in 14 games, totaling 54 saves. Taylor Heimerl leads the offensive charge for Rosemount, posting 13 goals and 11 assists.

Both teams will learn from each other in Wednesday’s game and use it to prepare for a potential section matchup down the road.
