White Bear Lake vs. Stillwater

7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 20

Defending Class 3A state champion Stillwater (9-0-1) has not felt the agony of defeat lately, but conference foe White Bear Lake (7-2) will look to play spoiler when the two teams square off at Stillwater High School.

White Bear Lake is looking to match its highest win streak of the 2022 season by knocking off Stillwater. After a 1-0 loss to Centennial to open the year on Aug. 27, White Bear Lake railed off four straight wins. That streak came to an end when the team fell 5-0 at Rosemount on Sept. 10. Since then, the Bears have won its last three games outscoring opponents 14-2. Jenna Maloy has scored six goals and recorded three assists, and goalkeepers Autumn Maki (45 saves) and Chloe Tocko (16 saves) have split time in goal for White Bear Lake. A win against No. 1-3A Stillwater would be the Bears' first win against a ranked opponent this season.

Before tying with Centennial 0-0 on Sept. 17, Stillwater had a 14-game winning streak dating back to 2021, with the Ponies' last loss coming on Oct. 2, 2021. Stillwater came off their state championship season looking strong, as the team started 2022 with six consecutive shutout wins. The Ponies have also taken care of business against top teams in the state like Edina, Rosemount and Woodbury. Stillwater will now look to translate that success against one of their top conference foes this season. Alayna Muths, Brooke Nelson and Luka Johnson all have seven goals this season.
