Among the state’s six remaining unbeaten teams, it would be hard to find one that has been more impressive than No. 1-2A Benilde-St. Margaret’s (10-0-0). The four-time state champion Red Knights have eight shutouts, seven in which they’ve scored five or more goals. They have allowed just three goals all season.
Senior Ava Wagener leads Benilde-St. Margaret’s with 17 goals — a total that is tied for sixth most in the state. Senior Maddie Shannon (13 goals) is another superb scoring threat.
The task isn’t insurmountable for Orono, given that the No. 7-2A Spartans (5-3-1) have an incredibly balanced attack that includes seven players with two or more goals. Junior Eva Pinske is the leader with five.
