Maple Grove vs. Centennial

5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28

Chris Frantz is a great player on a great team. Maybe better than great — on both counts. Frantz ranks second in the state with 20 goals for Maple Grove, ranked No. 2 in the Class 3A coaches poll from Sept. 18. While Frantz has scored three or more goals five times this season, he’s far from a one-man wrecking crew.

The Crimson (10-0-0) have a deep and skilled supporting cast, led by junior Carter Sheard (10 goals) senior Jordan Ross (eight goals). All that firepower — Maple Grove has scored at least three goals in every game — has helped make the Crimson one of just four unbeaten and untied teams in the state.

Centennial is unranked, but that status would be likely to change in a hurry if the Cougars (7-2-1) can engineer an upset of the Crimson. Centennial’s balanced offense is led by Cal Babiash and Garrett Andersen, each of whom have five goals.
