Holy Angels vs. Richfield

7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 29

Boys’ soccer success has been fleeting for Richfield, as the program reached its apex with a 1975 state championship. More recently, the Spartans have had just three winning seasons since 2011, advancing no further than the section quarterfinals in that span.

Now, seemingly out of nowhere, the No. 7-1A Spartans are unblemished and eager to show off their bona fides against none other than No. 4-1A Holy Angels (5-0-1, 5-0-1), an intracity rival about a mile down the road that has bounced Richfield (7-0-0, 6-0-0) out of the playoffs more than once in recent years.

Junior Carter Hermanson is among Holy Angels’ top scorers while senior Miguel Leon Alvarado paces the Spartans with 13 goals.
