The victory also allowed Maple Grove to secure bragging rights in this showdown featuring state ranked Northwest Suburban Conference rivals.

Andover (13-2-0, 11-1-0) had just ascended to the top spot in the Class 2A coaches' poll from Sept. 30, while the Crimson (13-1-1, 10-1-1) climbed to No. 3.

The matchup of state title contenders was scoreless until Dyba tallied Maple Grove's first goal on a penalty kick 13 minutes into the game.

Strong defensive efforts from both teams limited scoring chances for the remainder of the first half.
