Hill-Murray vs. Mahtomedi

5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24

Less than seven miles separate these Metro East Conference foes who enjoy a healthy public versus private school rivalry in several sports, including boys’ soccer.

Hill-Murray (5-1-4, 3-0-1) is unbeaten in its last five games, and three of those matches were won via shutout. Fisher Hoy has played most of the minutes in goal, stopping 57 of 70 shots. Joe Schoenecker is the Pioneers’ scoring leader with seven goals.

Timothy Bruner (13 goals this season), George Velky and Kyle Schmidt scored for Mahtomedi (7-2-1, 2-0-1) in its latest outing, a 3-2 victory over North St. Paul last Thursday.

The Zephyrs reached the Class 1A state tournament last season, where they fell 1-0 to Bemidji in the quarterfinals.
