Both Eden Prairie and Stillwater have enjoyed long runs of dominance on their respective sides of the metro (Eden Prairie to the west; Stillwater to the east).
Eden Prairie has made 10 state tournament appearances, winning Class 2A titles in 2005 and 2010, and finishing second four times (in 2006, 2008, 2014 and 2015). Stillwater has a similar history: nine appearances, titles in 1994 and 1998 and runner-up finishes in 1997 and 2001.
Both teams are undefeated through the first week of the season. Eden Prairie (1-0, 0-0) blasted Blake 5-1 in its opener behind two Mim Marsan goals.
Stillwater opened with shutout victories over Rosemount (4-0) and Anoka (1-0). Sophomore Marisa Bonilla leads the No. 3-2A Ponies (2-0, 0-0) with three goals.
