Prior Lake vs. Wayzata

Noon, Saturday, Aug. 31

Both teams were dealt surprising opening-week losses, with Prior Lake falling 1-0 to Bloomington Jefferson on Saturday and Wayzata losing 3-2 to St. Louis Park the same day.

Despite the early stumbles, both the No. 8-2A Lakers (0-1, 0-0) and No. 1-2A Trojans (1-1, 0-0) figure to be in the top-10 rankings mix much of the season.

Wayzata, in particular, has been a beacon of a program over the years. The Trojans won state titles in 1985, 2005 and 2017, and finished second in 1987, 2001, 2007, 2009, 2014 and 2016. They are led this season by captain Ben Luedtke, a defender and multi-sport standout who also serves as captain of the school's boys' hockey team.

Although Prior Lake was shut out in its first outing, Lakers goalkeeper Griffin Frum made four saves against Bloomington Jefferson.
