Holy Angels vs. Breck

1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22

Holy Angels and Breck have shown dominance in the first half of the season allowing a combined seven goals and recording five shutouts each. Saturday's contest should serve as an excellent benchmark for both teams as the postseason approaches.

The No. 3-1A Stars' perfect record is not just a run of blowouts but a sign of resiliency. Four one-goal wins have been interspersed with blowouts, including an 11-1 win over St. Agnes on Sept. 6. Holy Angels (9-0, 3-0) will need that meddle, and senior goalkeeper Sam Anderson, with five clean score sheets this season, could be the key to downing a multi-faceted Breck team.

The No. 4-1A Mustangs haven't had the number of steamrolling results as the Stars, but Breck (7-1, 5-0) has shown similar ability to execute when the games are tight. A 1-0 win over No. 2-1A Blake on Sept. 15 proved that.

The ability to execute is evident throughout the roster. Eric SmittsJosh Taylor and Walsh Kern are the joint goal-scoring leaders with three apiece, and with so many players boasting scoring ability — 14 Mustang players have recorded either a goal or assist — Breck should have a chance to defeat the dominant Stars.
