Minnetonka vs.

Duluth East

Noon, Saturday, Sept. 1

There should be plenty of scoring opportunities when No. 5-2A Minnetonka travels to No. 4-2A Duluth East, with proven offensive weapons returning for both squads. This matchup should also serve as a litmus test for two squads with state tournament aspirations, but especially for the Greyhounds. They took third in Class 2A last season and don't have as many chances to play other state tournament-caliber teams during the regular season.

Duluth East (2-0) racked up nine goals in its first two games, dispatching Andover 4-1 on Aug. 24 and Blaine 5-0 on Aug. 25. Senior Seth Hoffman (13 goals, 7 assists last season) will be one of the Greyhounds attackers tasked with unlocking defenses this season.

The Skippers (1-0-1) return last season's top scorer in Sergio Rivas, who has already picked up two goals in the opening games of 2018. Goalkeeper Luca Vereecken is also back after appearing in 11 games last season, and the senior is tasked with marshaling Minnetonka's defense against a rolling Greyhounds attack.
