Mahtomedi vs.

White Bear Lake

7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28

In a week packed with intriguing matchups, this contest could show whether No. 1-1A Mahtomedi and its stalwart defense is up to the challenge of defending its state title against No.7-2A White Bear Lake.

The Zephyrs rode a dominant defensive showing en route to the Class 1A championship, boasting 11 shutouts and allowing just five goals in 16 regular-season games. A big reason why: Megan Lisowy, the brick wall in net, made 67 regular-season saves while maintaining a .957 save percentage. Back to anchor the Mahtomedi (2-0) defense for her junior season, Lisowy looks to replicate last season’s success.

The Bears (2-0) look to build on last season's 14-3 run, which included an undefeated Suburban East Conference campaign — and a 1-0 win over the Zephyrs. Claire Odmark scored the game’s lone goal, and she returns for her senior year after leading the team with 22 goals last fall. She’s joined by junior Kayla Anderson, who finished 2017 with 18 goals. Each contributed seven assists.
