Holy Angels at Minneapolis Washburn
8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16

This top game features two similar teams, despite each playing in different conferences and classes.

Minneapolis Washburn and Holy Angels were both one game away from making the state tournament last year. Washburn lost to Wayzata 3-0 in the Class 2A, Section 6 final, and Holy Angels lost to St. Thomas Academy 1-0 in the Class 1A, Section 3 final. Both also bounced back this season to earn the No. 4 ranking in their respective classes.

Minneapolis Washburn (5-0-1, 2-0-0) opened its season with a 1-1 draw against No. 3-2A Edina. Since then, the Millers have won five straight games by a combined score of 24-4. Darley Florvil has scored 11 goals, which is tied for the fourth-most in the state entering this week.

Holy Angels (4-1-1, 1-0-0) lost to St. Thomas Academy 5-2 last week, and looks to bounce back against Washburn after two mid-week games. If the Stars hope to beat the Millers, they’ll likely need production from Porter Ball. He scored twice against Hermantown in a 4-0 win, and he’ll need to come up big again.
