Maple Grove vs. Minneapolis Washburn
6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16

Haakenson’s been the most talked about player at Maple Grove — and for good reason. She earned the 2016 Gatorade Minnesota Girls Soccer Player of the Year award and All-Central Region honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Haakenson leads her team with six goals, but she has a cast of teammates who have allowed the Crimson to outscore opponents 24-0 this season. Shelby Handberg has five goals, along with five other players who've scored two or more goals thus far.

Minneapolis Washburn has found solid footing after beginning the year with tight 1-0 victories over Cretin-Derham Hall and Lakeville North. The Millers have scored a total of 19 goals in their last four games, including an 8-0 rout of Minneapolis Roosevelt on Sept. 7.

The Millers picked up a 2-1 win over rival Minneapolis Southwest on Sept. 5, and, with a victory over Maple Grove, they can send a message that their No. 2 ranking in Class 2A is legitimate.
