It was all Mankato West early on, and the Scarlets didn’t let up as they rolled to a 7-1 victory over North Branch in Class 1A girls’ state soccer quarterfinals Tuesday.

Junior Shelby Lund scored a hat trick – before the first half was over.

 “She just has sort of a tenacity around the goal,” Mankato West coach Crissy Makela said.

No. 3 seed Mankato West (18-2-0) took a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game over unseeded North Branch (12-8-1). The Scarlets have now won 18 consecutive games.

Junior McKenna Buisman scored twice for Mankato West while sophomore Ashley Gustavson and senior Lauren Colway each scored once.

“I think that my other two forwards, McKenna and Ashley, and I have just connected all year round,” Lund said.

Eighth-grader Khyah Harper scored for North Branch.

Mankato West and Dover-Eyota will face each other in the state semifinals at 6 p.m. Monday at U.S. Bank Stadium.

No. 3 seed Mankato West (18-2-0) took a quick 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game over unseeded North Branch (12-8-1).

With the victory, the Scarlets pushed their winning streak to 18 games with 11 shutouts. Their only losses were the first two games of the season against Wayzata and St. Peter.

Mankato West and Dover-Eyota will face each other in the state semifinals at 6 p.m. Monday 31 at U.S. Bank Stadium.
