Burnsville vs. Minneapolis Washburn
7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6

The past two meetings between Minneapolis Washburn and Burnsville have been lopsided affairs in favor of the Millers, who won 4-0 last year and 6-0 two years ago. With a smoldering desire to reverse the trend, the Blaze can look to its offense and defense to cool their opponent in this matchup.

Sophomore Maya Hansen has four goals already this season and will be looking to prevent Burnsville from getting shutout again by the Millers. She scored twice in a 4-0 victory over No. 8-1A DeLaSalle in the opener and added two more against Minneapolis Southwest in a 5-0 win last week.

Burnsville (2-1-1) held St. Michael-Albertville’s Makenzie Langdok in check but had to settle for a 1-1 tie in a game the Knights led 1-0 with 12 minutes left.

Washburn, which finished runners-up in the Class 1A state tournament two years ago and advanced to last year’s Class 2A, Section 6 title game, have shown their program remains strong after graduating standout Maya Rajacich.

The No. 8-2A Millers (2-0-1) returns all-state second team selection Charlotte DeVaughn and Minnesota recruit Lydia Ruppert.

Washburn opened the season with a 2-2 tie against No. 3-2A Lakeville North, a game the Millers looked to have in hand until Panthers senior Alyssa Krause's goal with seven seconds left in regulation leveled the score.
