Maple Grove vs. Centennial
7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8

Centennial meets Maple Grove for the first time since the Cougars upset the Crimson 3-0 in last season's Class 2A, Section 5 championship game to earn a return trip to state.

Centennial appears to be in fine shape this season after graduating all-state first team defender Mikayla Iaquinto, along with goalkeeper Caitlyn Bangert and attacker Nan Glinsek, who were all-state second team selections. The No. 9-2A Cougars are off to a 3-0-1 start behind the play of senior Jordyn Gunderson and freshman Olivia Lovick.

Gunderson scored in a 2-1 season-opening win over White Bear Lake while Lovick's two goals lead a roster that has seven players who have a goal through the first four games.

Maple Grove (2-1) dropped its opener to No. 2-2A Mounds View 3-1, but bounced back to win its next two games.

Sophomore attacker Lexi Miller scored twice for the Crimson in a 3-0 victory over Robbinsdale Armstrong, and Mia Omar and Morgan Palmer each had a goal in a 2-0 win over Coon Rapids.
