Maple Grove's Meredith Haakenson named Ms. Soccer in Class 2A

Mankato West’s McKenna Buisman was named Ms. Soccer in Class 1A.

Class 2A

Maple Grove midfielder Meredith Haakenson posted a team-high 18 goals and had nine assists this season, helping her capture Ms. Soccer in Class 2A. 

The senior helped the Crimson to a 17-2 record this fall and led the program to its first state tournament appearance.  

Haakenson was named to the High School Soccer All-American Games girls west roster, with the game schedule for Dec. 2 in Orlando, Florida.
The Michigan commit is a four-time first-team all-state selection.

Class 1A

Mankato West’s McKenna Buisman was named Ms. Soccer in Class 1A. She had 27 goals and 13 assists entering the state tournament.

Buisman set Mankato West career records for goals (79) and assists (41) assists.

She has committed to play at Minnesota and was a first-team all-state selection for the third straight year as a senior.

About the award

The Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaches Association (MSHSSCA) bestows the Mr. and Ms. Soccer Award to the individual who is determined to be the best player in Minnesota. The awards are handed out to both Class 1A and 2A players and are decided by member coaches from the MSHSSCA.
