2A boys: Wayzata, Maple Grove win quarterfinals in St. Cloud

The Crimson defeated Prior Lake in overtime while the Trojans got past Mounds View.

Maple Grove 2, Prior Lake 1 (OT): Senior attacker Jeff Clune scored the overtime goal in the 97th minute as the Crimson (16-1-2) edged the Lakers (14-5-1) in the Class 2A boys' soccer quarterfinals Wednesday at St. Cloud State. Teammate junior Riley Gill tied it at 1-all with a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. Senior Logan Weller opened the scoring for Prior Lake with a header off a corner kick in the 31st minute.

Wayzata 4, Mounds View 1: Senior Erik Williams broke open a close game with back-to-back second-half goals as the No. 1-ranked Trojans (18-0-2) pulled away from the Mustangs (9-9-2) in St. Cloud. Wayzata held a 2-1 lead before Williams tallied in the 50th and 67th minute. Earlier in the second half, teammate sophomore Patrick Weah and Mounds View senior Elijah Paulin scored 16 seconds apart, both in the 44th minute. Wayzata senior Sadra Golzarian scored the lone goal in the first half in the 10th minute.
